A new MRI scanner that will enhance research efforts across the UF campus was crane-lifted into the McKnight Brain Institute on Monday.
The Philips MR Ingenia Elition 3T MRI scanner, housed in the MBI’s Advanced Magnetic Resonance Imaging and Spectroscopy Facility (AMRIS), replaces the Philips Achieva model which had been in use at the MBI for 14 years.
The new magnet boasts advanced imaging and spectroscopy tools and increased bore size, providing additional space that will expand research capabilities and decrease claustrophobia experienced by some subjects.
“This magnet will support all aspects of research at UF that use MRI as a tool to answer important questions about function of the human body and its diseases,” said Jens T. Rosenberg, Ph.D., AMRIS core research facilities manager. “The system comes with the latest technologies for neuro and whole-body imaging, including digital signal transmission for increased signal to noise.”
