Dr. Duane Mitchell elected to Association of American Physicians

Duane Mitchell, M.D., Ph.D., has been elected to the Association of American Physicians, an honor recognizing outstanding credentials in basic or translational biomedical research. Founded in 1885 and dedicated to the advancement of scientific and practical medicine, the AAP includes among its honorees Nobel laureates and members of the National Academy of Sciences and the National Academy of Medicine.

Mitchell was inducted during the 2023 AAP/ASCI/APSA Joint Meeting, an annual gathering of the AAP, the American Society for Clinical Investigation and the American Physician Scientists Association. He also was honored with the ASCI’s inaugural Louis W. Sullivan, M.D., Award in recognition of his work to develop innovative immunotherapy treatments for brain cancer.

Mitchell is co-director of the Preston A. Wells Jr. Center for Brain Tumor Therapy, the Phyllis Kottler Friedman Professor in the Lillian S. Wells Department of Neurosurgery and director of the UF Clinical and Translational Science Institute.
